Fire, Ice, and Heat

I

I melt these candles of yours

hand pour hot wax

on my fingerprint.

I press and dent the sticky sap

on the page before me —

I see a circle forming,

an imperfect lap,

wide with gaps

for my light to shine through.

I whisper my wishes

on these little lit wicks

hoping they predict

your presence.

they flicker and flutter when you arrive

like fire fighting night

you write

I'm with you

I love you

I rush to cup you

disappear

I can hardly wait to hold you dear

trace the folds of your ear

you are the ripple a pond needs after a long year

II

my seance concludes

unsure if I summoned you

aurora

bright and green orbs of ice and heat

streak along the lines in my mind

doodle and daydream

my hidden notebook

place you burden

on my coat hooks

visiting comet

I promise you can stay,

it’s an option

I lay down napkins

a beige flute

a spoon for soup

a piece of our moon

harpooned to fork

a guided tour of my planet’s atlas

but you’re from the Oort

un-used to the torque of a spinning axis

So i watch you burn slow

and reach for your frozen rope

you singe and pinch the  tips of my nose

until ice becomes water

and water become smoke

III

Lets you and I elope and indulge

in the pleasures of simple matters--

good soap

with warm bath

and lotion after

folded clothes

in our linen hamper

Summers spent

pampered on

Hampton porches

gorgeous

as honey bee

or hummingbird

sipping

orchid

you are wind when breath is needed

my friend,

you left for reasons you kept secret

don’t need to know why

some poetry gets deleted

as long as my psalm found you

can keep it

Fire Ice & Heat
